Ovchartsi Soldzhaka

Soldzhaka locality

The site is located near the former village of Ovchartsi. During the archaeological excavation of a site with a total area of 50 acres, Iron Age (first millennium BC) and Roman Period structures were unearthed.

The earliest of them dated to the second stage of the Early Iron Age and they were localized in the eastern section of the studied terrain while Late Iron Age structures prevailed in the west. In the central part of the site dug structures were attested and they contained Early Iron Age ceramic sherds as well as transport amphorae and vessels made on potter’s wheel.

Animal skeletons were discovered in some of the pits as well as human remains. Among the archaeological materials there were ceramic vessels, tools, burnt plaster fragments, fireplaces, quern-stones, domestic and game animal bones.
